Rev. George W. Rizor, Jr.

 

Reverend George W. Rizor, Jr.

 

Rev. Rizor is a native of Washington, Pennsylvania.

 

He served in the United States Navy, as a photographer, from April, 1971 to April, 1975.  He lived in the Washington, DC area for five years. 

 

He graduated from Washington High School in 1969.

 

Rev. Rizor's Bachelor's Degree in Psychology is from California University of Pennsylvania.  He has his Master's Degree in Research Methodology and Statistics from the University of Pittsburgh.  He has also completed all of the course work for the PhD in two disciplines: Research Methodology and Cognitive Psychology.  At Pitt, he also did research work at the Learning Research and Development Center, in human problem solving process.  He worked for nearly a decade as a Computer Specialist for the United States Government.  Rev. Rizor authored the first ‘UNIX’ computer curriculum used by the Department of the Treasury, when that operating system was in its infancy.  He worked for IBM, traveling around the world several times, teaching computer classes that he authored for IBM software.  He has expertise as a computer programmer and a CAD designer.  He designed two floors of the William Moorehead Federal Building in Pittsburgh, used by the Internal Revenue Service and the Internal Revenue Service Office in Johnstown, PA.  Rev. Rizor has also done course work at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

 

Rev. Rizor joined the Methodist Church as a youth, and came to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) nearly 45 years ago.  He served as a Church School teacher for many years.  He has served as committee chairperson, youth group advisor, resource person for various church projects, and was the Associate Minister (Youth and Evangelism) at Fairhill Manor Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Washington, Pa., when called to the pulpit at Clarksville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Clarksville, Pennsylvania.  He served as pastor to that church family for nearly 6 years.  Rev. Rizor also served the congregation of First Christian Church in Marianna, Pennsylvania.

 

Rev. Rizor is a licensed minister, licensed through the adjudicatory authority of the Christian Church Capital Area of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

 

Rev. Rizor originated and was the host of the radio show, DOVEWORKS, a weekly half-hour presentation of original short stories.  He has been the secretary of the Greater Washington Ministries and President of the Jefferson-Morgan Ministerium.  He is a past President of the Southwest District of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pennsylvania, and has served on the Pennsylvania Regional Board.  Rev. Rizor served the Taylorstown Christian Church in Pennsylvania.

 

Rev. Rizor is divorced.  He and his former wife have twin daughters, Erin and Hannah, and a son, George, III.

 

Rev. Rizor is currently the Senior Minister of Landover Christian Church, in Landover, Maryland.  He is a professor of Social Sciences and Humanities at Westwood College in Annandale, Virginia.  He is also the Director of the Landover Community and Resource Center, in Landover, Maryland.

 

Rev. Rizor is domestic partner to Dennis R. Winston, a financial analyst and cost accountant for a subsidiary of the federal government in Washington, DC.

 

Rev. Rizor has been employed as a busboy, taxi driver, physics instructor (quantum mechanics and the theory of light), photographer (4 years in the Navy as a photographer in Washington, DC), juvenile probation officer, computer consultant, psychiatric therapeutic team member in a state mental institution, businessman, college instructor and pastor.

 

Rev. Rizor enjoys swimming, computing for fun, hiking, dining out, cooking, Batman, comic book superheroes, science fiction, writing, recreational reading, and traveling.
